Thoughts on Christmas Tree Decorations

The perfect symbol of Christmas will probably mean many different things, to many different people, but to me, it might just be a beautiful, symmetrical tree. By decorating it with treasures you can even enhance the beauty and spirit of it, creating a one-of-a-kind memory of the season. Hear a few of my thoughts on decorating your Christmas tree in this article.

Christmas decorating is often whimsical and temporary, this does not, however, mean that it is not a good idea to follow many of the same principles you would use, when decorating your home on a more permanent basis.

There are a few things you should avoid, so you don't end up with a boring tree. For example, people tend to cover their tree in decorations which are approximately the same size and shape. You should try to pique more interest by varying sizes and shapes, by using garlands, and even creating a theme for your tree.

Theme trees are fun! Lots of fun! If you feel you are a bit short on same themed ornaments there are a few things you can do. To stretch a growing collection of ornaments, you can put them on a smaller tree used in a bedroom, kitchen, or entry. This way, your ornaments will have a bigger impact.

If not, you can stretch them out, using inexpensive, "filler" ornaments, while making sure to place your themed ornaments in the front section of the tree. Remember to be creative in what items you use to expand on your theme. As an example, a Western theme tree could use knotted ropes for "garland", plus pine cones and other natural items, that are free or inexpensive.

This ties into another point. In the current economic state, you might find that you need to stretch your budget this season. There are a few thing you can do. Make some decorations on your own, and ask your kids to contribute as well. You can also use items you already have. Many items that are not thought of as traditional ornaments can be useful, for example toys, bears, hobby items, baskets, laminated photos and cards, and the list goes on. Always remember to get creative!
